Monday Music #6

Last week, I had a great Octopus Deploy presentation at the Chicago ALM Users Group in Downers Grove. Promptly afterwards, I got the flu which I haven’t had in quite a while. From Wednesday to Friday I was completely out of commission. I started antibiotics on Friday for an ear infection and while everything has improved, my hearing has been significantly better.
So to start this week off, I’m listening to yet another soundtrack. From Gone Girl and from the awesome duo of Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, the track Sugar Storm is where I’m at. It’s yet another slow building track but it’s soft and light. As the volume progressively grows and sharp, random, electric noises cut and jab their way into the melody, it seems like the track is frayed or unraveling and then we seemingly collapse back to restore our original calm state.
Again, I really enjoy the duo and in the right setting, regardless of film or not, the music reflects the subconscious emotions and makes a tangible, visceral experience even more complex and richer.  I don’t know how they do it, but I love it.
